Vauen stems from Germany’s oldest tobacco pipe manufacturing company, tracing its roots back to the founding partnership of Karl Ellenberger and Carl August Ziener in Nuremberg, 1848. Out of the Ellenberger-Ziener partnership soon came the Vauen make itself, which grew to become Germany’s largest and most enduring pipe brand – a title that it continues to hold to this day.

At some point in the last century, Vauen clearly took a good look at the masterworks coming out of Denmark and thought, “we’ll have what they’re having.” This pipe for example, is positively dripping with admiration for Danish icons such as Hans ‘Former’ Nielsen, S. Bang, and Nanna Ivarsson. It is a distinctly ‘chubby’ apple shape, with a subtly faceted shank and a flared stem – in other words, it is very Danish. Anyway, I’m not complaining. It looks great.

It’s also unsmoked. with an original bowl coating from the factory. It also comes with its original box and sleeve. It accommodates 9mm filters as standard, but as it is a straight pipe, it would likely accommodate a non-filter adapter if its owner wishes.
