A common practice among pipe companies in the 20th century was the production of “seconds.” If you can think of a major pipe brand from the last 100 years, it’s almost certain that a seconds brand (or, in some instances, many seconds brands) came from the same production line. Essentially, seconds were pipes that were discovered to have minor, purely cosmetic, imperfections at one stage or another in the manufacturing process. Instead of throwing these perfectly good pipes away, companies used seconds brands to offer them at more affordable prices.

This looks to be one of those pipes, from a French make. Interestingly, its nomenclature indicates it as having been turned from Algerian briar, which was famously high-quality and sought after around the mid-20th century.

The condition is very good. Chamber slightly over-reamed, a couple of small fills, and some oxidation on the mouthpiece.
