Spiral carvings are as intimately connected with the artistry of meerschaum carving as floral and lattice motifs, but they are by no means easy to accomplish. When done right, however, they are a beauty to behold, and so it’s no wonder that meerschaum carvers honing their technique just to get them right. This particular example comes from an unknown carver, though they clearly knew what they were doing. They also had the good sense to incorporate a reverse calabash system into the pipe’s overall design, which should make for an even cooler, drier smoke than usual.
This pipe is completely unsmoked and comes with its original fitted case. I note a couple of small nicks on the outside of the bowl. They’re minor, but I’ve factored them into the price in any case.
