Description
The Smoke Shop was an American tobacconist located in Annapolis, Maryland, in the 20th century. As is tradition for retailers of its kind, The Smoke Shop had house-brand pipes made for it by major pipe manufacturers, one of which was Ango-French stalwart Comoy’s. Comoy’s itself is a historic brand in pipe making, and possibly the most historic brand in the making of briar pipes. Though originally founded in 1825 by a French family from Saint Claude, France, production of Comoy’s pipes was soon moved to London, England, where it established itself as one of the quintessential English pipe companies.
Despite being a very traditional pot shape, collectors of fine English pipes could probably pick this one out of a lineup based on its figure alone. After all, it is the classic, wide-chambered Comoy’s shape “126,” a certified champ when it comes to mixtures and ribbon cuts (though it handles most other blends with ease, too).
The condition is good. Some rim darkening and slight finish fading.
