Stanwell Pre-2010 Classic Sandblasted Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

Description
Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.
Stanwell’s Classic line was, true to its name, comprised of some of the all-time classic shapes in the make’s catalog, featuring some that were still in production and others that had been previously discontinued. The “191,” for example, is (or was, as it’s very difficult to keep up with what Stanwell is doing these days) was designed by Tom Eltang around the turn of the millennium and was, quite understandably, very popular. The shape can be comfortably described as a “Danish bulldog,” with precedents in the works of Tao, S. Bang, and, of course, Eltang himself, having a plump and rather stubby figure that is both easy on the eyes and comfortable to clench or pocket when needed. Though I did not note a “Made in Denmark” stamp, the absence of a “Danish Design” stamp and the silver, crowned “S” stem logo point to this being a prw-2010 make, from before Stanwell’s production moved to Italy.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating, and comes with its original sleeve.
