Stanwell Amber Light 11 Smooth Pot (9mm) (Unsmoked Estate)

Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.

One of my personal favorite Stanwell lines in recent years was the Amber (also known as the Amber Light). In a manner not entirely unlike the old, long-discontinued Golden Contrast, the Amber’s defining feature was its deep contrast, smooth polished finish, accented by a narrow silver accent at the shank end. Naturally, this finish did wonders for the briar patterns underneath, while lending the pipe a general sheen befitting its namesake.
This Amber Light is rendered in Stanwell’s shape “11,” a distinctive pot rendition designed by Sixten Ivarsson in the 1970s, which would go on to become one of the make’s most popular and enduring shapes.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It is chambered to accommodate 9mm filters if desired.
