Sean Reum “Eggshell” Sandblasted Dublin with Cumberland (Estate)

Over the last decade, Sean Reum has emerged as one of North America’s most admired and in-demand pipe makers. Having followed Reum’s career for many years, including catching a few glimpses of the artisan in his Montana workshop, I’m happy to say that his status in the pipe world is well-earned. A master carver of hand made pipes in the Scandinavian tradition, Reum has managed to secure a niche in the highly competitive artisan market through a combination of innovative designs and production techniques, a consistent, high quality output, and an almost unparalleled work ethic.

The “Eggshell” is a signature finishing technique that was developed by Sean Reum a few years back. One could consider it a kind of “micro-sandblast,” eschewing the gnarled, craggy reliefs typically pursued in artisan briars in favor of something lighter, yet still tactile and visually striking. In this instance, the finish has been applied to a lightweight, Scandi-American Dublin, with a matching cumberland ferrule and mouthpiece.

The condition is very good. Some slight darkening and finish fading on the rim (the darker spots look to simply be whispers of live plateaux edge).
