It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

Savinelli’s Unica has been a recent and quite unique series. It marked the first time in a long while that the Italian make has produced completely new shapes, along with novel finishes to complement them. So far, the pipes have been a special release, with limited quantities available. The U65, for example, is an especially stout and sturdy take on the traditional Oom Paul, with a thick-walled, stacked chamber far exceeding Savinelli’s other renditions of the shape. Exclusive to the Unica series, it is dressed in a light, burgundy rustication and paired with a custom-cast cobalt blue acrylic stem.

This pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 6mm filters, such as Savinelli’s own balsa filters, if desired, but will also perform perfectly well without one.
