Savinelli Extra Lumberman Long Rusticated Canadian (Estate)

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

The Savinelli Extra is a rather old line in the make’s history, one whose origins reside in the early years of Savinelli’s Milan factory. They were intended to be pipes for the everyman, satisfying the “taste and wallet” of the young, the old, the rich, and the not so rich. This one takes the form of an exceptionally large lumberman rendition (technically a Canadian, though shape names were not quite as standardized back then), which is very much in keeping with Savinelli’s historic connection to extra long long shank designs, though which has not been part of the make’s standard output in a long time. It is dressed in a similarly long-discontinued, though quite fetching, rusticated finish, which the Savinelli company at the time likened to “Guilloche.”

The condition is remarkably good for the pipe’s age. Minor rim darkening slight finish fading, and very slight tooth chatter.
