Description

The House of Rattray was originally a tobacconist, opening in Perth, Scotland, in 1903, under the oversight of Charles Rattray. House of Rattray soon became a blending house (whose blends are still sold to this day under the Rattray’s name) and a purveyor of Rattray-brand pipes, made for the tobacconist by established English pipe makers. Over the years, the name changed hands, with contemporary Rattray’s pipes and tobaccos being produced under the umbrella of German’s Kopp company (formerly Kolhase & Kopp). Today, Rattray’s pipes are manufactured by various major European makers, such as Chacom and Butz-Choquin in France and Brebbia and L’anatra in Italy.

Among the many things that Scotland is famous for, one thing that it is particularly well known for across the globe is its distilleries. The Scots live in high spirits, it might be said, and many a traveler will make a pilgrimage to the country to also enjoy a wee dram, straight from the source. The Rattray’s Distillery line pays tribute to this national institution. Dressed in a deep sandblast finish, such pipes sport a fetching, engraved copper collar, with the latter having been chosen specifically due to its popular use in the construction of pot stills.

Note that while some Rattray’s Distillery pipes are made from ash wood (specifically, the Distillery “G”), this one is the standard briar variant.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It also comes with its original packaging. The pipe is chambered to accommodate 9mm filters if desired.
