Pipe Tristan Partially Sandblasted Dublin with Bocote (New)

I used to say that Pipe Tristan’s Tristan Lefebvre was part of a “new wave” of “up-and-coming” artisans from France, the very birthplace of the briar pipe. But that description doesn’t do him justice these days. Lefebvre isn’t so much a “part” of the latest generation of French artisans as the craftsman leading the charge; likewise, he is no longer “up-and-coming,” but has already secured himself a place alongside historic compatriots such as Alain Albuisson, Paul Lanier, and Pierre Morel Sr and Jr. In fact, in 2025, he was inducted into the Confrérie des Maîtres Pipiers de Saint-Claude, a prestigious French association of master pipe makers whose ranks have included Albuisson, Lanier, and Morel the younger.

While the previous batches of pipes Tristan Lefebvre’s sent us have included a few “modern” designs here and there, this most recent one has been thoroughly traditional in inclination, with a clear focus on three shapes: the poker, the billiard, the bent billiard, and the Dublin. In each instance, Tristan has showed off his mastery of the form, while adding a few contemporary touches to keep the designs fresh and interesting. This pipe, for example, has something of the old “OD 848” to it, being a tall and generally quite large take on the classic Dublin, with a pronounced forward cant. The dress, on the other hand, is more “Tristan style,” expressed via a craggy, ring grain sandblast with a dusky top-coat, an ebonite mouthpiece with a sandstone hue, and an accent cut from zebra-striped bocote.
