Description

Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

Peterson has made pipes in the “army mounted” style for well over a century now, and are arguably a big part of the reason the style is as popular as it is. The the make’s flagship model is the Irish Made Army, a nickel army mounted series of classic Anglo-French shapes. The Silver Mounted Army is essentially a step up from the Irish Made Army, featuring those same classic shapes, but with a sterling silver mount instead of nickel. They’re generally a little more difficult to get one’s hands on, and when they are found, they come at an understandable premium relative to their nickel-mounted cousin. This one is rendered in Peterson’s shape “106,” a stout billiard that has similarly held a place in Peterson’s catalog since the early 20th century, making it almost as historic as the mounts themselves.

The condition is very good. Some darkening and a couple of light scratches on the rim.
