Description
Nørding was founded by Erik Nørding in the 1960s, and is one of the oldest remaining companies to come out of the Scandinavian pipe-making renaissance that began in the mid-20th century. Now in his 80s, Erik Nørding is one of the most experienced and skilled pipe-makers in the world, and over the decades he has also been a teacher of other Danish masters, such as Poul Ilsted, Svend Axel Celius, Jens Tao Nielsen, Peder Jeppesen, and Søren Erik Andersen.
These days, Nording makes freehands in a vast variety of styles, often with highly innovative rusticated or carved finishes. But when the grain is good, sometimes it’s best to let it be, applying a simple, natural finish to let its patterns do their thing. Erik Nording’s Virgin Grain follows this very Danish approach which, in Nording’s words, results in a “truly unique and luxurious Freehand Pipe.” This particular pipe is a grade 2, the second highest awarded in the Virgin Grain line.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. There’s a couple of light scratches on the left side of the bowl, but nothing major. It comes with its original sleeve.
