Description

Nørding was founded by Erik Nørding in the 1960s, and is one of the oldest remaining companies to come out of the Scandinavian pipe-making renaissance that began in the mid-20th century. Now in his 80s, Erik Nørding is one of the most experienced and skilled pipe-makers in the world, and over the decades he has also been a teacher of other Danish masters, such as Poul Ilsted, Svend Axel Celius, Jens Tao Nielsen, Peder Jeppesen, and Søren Erik Andersen.

Erik Nording has, for many decades, been one of Denmark’s preeminent pipe makers and, as is the case with many pipe makers in the tradition, he’s employed numerous apprentices and experts to help craft Nording pipes in his workshop. As Erik has gotten older, he’s devoted more of his own time to crafting one of a kind, high-end pieces, with the Nording workshop staff being responsible for the majority of the brand’s serially produced pipes, such as the Freehand series. Erik’s high-end pieces are grouped under the Hand Made designation—not because Nording’s other pipes aren’t hand made, but because the Hand Made are made by Erik Nording’s hand—and are typically a little more extravagant than other Nording lines, while also being wholly unique. This one is a very Danish egg design, in the vein of the renditions Erik was helping to pioneer all the way back during the 1960s, when he was working under the SON (Skovbo og Nording) make. With its tall, rotund bowl, diamond shank, and ring grain sandblast, it’s a good reminder that Nording’s talents extend far beyond the Danish Fancy freehand genre he also helped set in motion.

The condition is very good. Slight rim charring and minor finish fading.
