Nording Extra Grade 2 Smooth Freehand Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
Nørding was founded by Erik Nørding in the 1960s, and is one of the oldest remaining companies to come out of the Scandinavian pipe-making renaissance that began in the mid-20th century. Now in his 80s, Erik Nørding is one of the most experienced and skilled pipe-makers in the world, and over the decades he has also been a teacher of other Danish masters, such as Poul Ilsted, Svend Axel Celius, Jens Tao Nielsen, Peder Jeppesen, and Søren Erik Andersen.
Nording’s Extra series is a relatively recent one, comprised of freehands that are, put simply, a little bit “extra,” and this is in a number of senses. For one thing, the grain on them is a cut above almost all other Nording freehand pipes; equally significant, though, is that Extra series pipes feature distinctive stem work and adornments, from bamboo, to exotic hardwoods, to the polymerized seeds of tropical plants. This grade 2 example would look to be an example of the latter, adding a further, naturalistic element to an already highly naturalistic design genre.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. Some minor scratches on the bowl.
