Nording 2000 Hunting Pipe “The Wild Boar” Rusticated Brandy Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates

Nørding was founded by Erik Nørding in the 1960s, and is one of the oldest remaining companies to come out of the Scandinavian pipe-making renaissance that began in the mid-20th century. Now in his 80s, Erik Nørding is one of the most experienced and skilled pipe-makers in the world, and over the decades he has also been a teacher of other Danish masters, such as Poul Ilsted, Svend Axel Celius, Jens Tao Nielsen, Peder Jeppesen, and Søren Erik Andersen.

Between 1995 and 2025, Erik Nørding has created a limited edition pipe to celebrate his love of wildlife and the great outdoors. These were Nørding’s limited edition “Hunting” series, conceived in collaboration with Danish wildlife illustrator Mogens Andersen, with each drawing inspiration for its design from an animal commonly associated with the sport (whether in the past or the present).

The design process for the 2000 Hunting Pipe was slightly different, however, as there was a third party involved. That third party was pipe luminary and good friend of Erik Nørding, Richard Carleton Hacker. Hacker and Andersen seem to have selected the animal to be studied—the wild boar—and co-authored the sketches from which Erik would realize the pipe. As one might imagine, the mouthpiece, being a pearly white aesthetic, was intended to evoke the boar’s tusks, though what one might not immediately recognize is that the bowl itself was intended to evoke its prominent snout. The 2000 Hunting Pipe was, thus, Hacker and Andersen trying to capture a sense of a male boar when viewed in profile, with the mouthpiece representing its lower tusk as it emerges from the jaw and moves back toward the animal’s head.

The condition is very good. Some slight darkening and minor scratches on the rim.
