Description
Originally a science teacher in California, Nathan Armentrout began making pipes in 2009 and has since emerged as one of North America’s most talented, high-grade artisan pipe-makers. Inspired by Denmark’s legendary carvers, Nathan’s designs continue the legacy of the Danish pipe-making movement into the present day and expand that legacy through his own unique interpretations of the masters of old.
In addition to his more “Danish” and “Scandi-American” designs, one of the things Nathan Armentrout has made a name for himself for are his ultra-lightweight, nosewarmer length renditions of various shapes. These have included pocket-friendly and eminently clenchable renditions of both traditional and modern staples, with this pipe being somewhere between the two. Taking the basic form of a neoclassical pot shape, Armentrout has scaled this one down to just a hair over 4.5 inches and just hair under an ounce. Despite its proportions, the pipe still houses a very reasonable chamber capacity and has held onto its wide-bowled, ribbon-friendly disposition. In keeping with the more American approach to aesthetics that Armentrout helped inaugurate, this one is dressed in a crisp, partial sandblast and features a castelo boxwood ferrule and hand-cut, flared ebonite stem.
