Description
Originally a science teacher in California, Nathan Armentrout began making pipes in 2009 and has since emerged as one of North America’s most talented, high-grade artisan pipe-makers. Inspired by Denmark’s legendary carvers, Nathan’s designs continue the legacy of the Danish pipe-making movement into the present day and expand that legacy through his own unique interpretations of the masters of old.
This latest batch of pipes from Nathan Armentrout has been something of a trip down memory lane in American artisan pipe making. Along with the Rad Davis tribute listed alongside it, this “standing” or “dancing” Dublin sitter calls back to the early heyday of the post-digital high-grade scene. In this instance, Armentrout’s design recalls the “standing” and “dancing” Dublins of figures such as Brad Pohlmann and Premal Chheda. Armentrout’s rendition is slightly more vertical than his forebears, as well as much lighter in stature, making for an easy clencher. As is typical for Armentrout’s own pipes, this one is finished in an excellent, ring grain sandblast and rich, high contrast stain.
