About this pipe:

The Moonshine Pipe Company was created in the early 2010s by American artisan craftsman Johnathan Lavezzo. After becoming a major hit in the tobacco pipe community, Lavezzo’s production became greatly outpaced by demand, leading him to enlist the help of Todd Johnson and Pete Prevost in scaling up the venture. Johnson and Prevost’s BriarWorks workshop took on the manufacture of Moonshine pipes, with the former ultimately acquiring the latter. Today, Moonshine and BriarWorks pipes are produced under the same roof in Tennessee.

The modern egg originated in post-war Denmark, but as artisan pipe making became more and more of an international affair, one might say that it hatched, sprouted wings, and found new homes across the globe. One community of artisans that would become particularly enamored with the egg was that of North America, in part because so many of its pioneering carvers studied directly with the legends of Scandinavian pipe making who had first brought it to prominence. Moonshine’s own staff roster is filled with such carvers and their own former students, so it’s only natural that a solid egg rendition would be among Moonshine’s lineup. In fact, there have been a few over the years, with the plump, stacked, and slightly stubby “MS05” (seen here in its tapered form) being one of them.
