Kaywoodie Connoisseur 39 Smooth Large Billiard Estate Briar Pipe Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.
As was the case for many major pipe manufacturers in the 20th century, certain pipes in Kaywoodie’s output were a little more “special” than others. While Kaywoodie took a very much justified pride in the entirety of its catalog, the company knew that, for a subset of their customers, a pipe was more than just a smoking instrument. It could also be a thing of beauty, a collector’s piece, or a symbol of status. Kaywoodie’s Connoisseur line was, as the name suggests, exactly that. As one catalog put it, these pipes were “for pipe smokers who are really fans, who take pride in their pipes and in in the sheer pleasure of comparing different grains and shapes.” As for the former, Connoisseurs were given a light, virgin finish, “light in color so that it always reveals the grain of the briar in all its beauty”. As can be seen from this one, Kaywoodie certainly wasn’t kidding when it came to marketing, which I’d imagine is why Connoisseurs remain such prized artifacts today.
This Kaywoodie is completely unsmoked.
