Kaywoodie 2003 Pipe of the Year Sandblasted Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

Description

Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers.

Though Kaywoodie is not normally known for their Pipes of the Year, the company has, in recent times, made exactly that. Under the watch of S.M. Frank, an annual, limited run of special Kaywoodie pipes was introduced in 2003, with just 100 pipes made for each run between 2003 and 2010, and then just 150 pipes made per year from 2010 onward. These pipes have become quite the collector’s item, especially as S.M. Frank’s president, Bill Feuerbach, was heavily involved in their manufacture.

This particular Kaywoodie belongs to the inaugural Pipe of the Year release, taking the form of a rather large, 1/4 bent bulldog rendition. There’s a little of the English classics to it, though for the most part it’s an exemplar of good old American heft.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. It comes with its original box and sleeve.
