Description
Jobey is a name that has been associated with a number of pipe manufacturers, vendors, and nationalities over the years. The Jobey name has also been attached to a wide variety of pipes and styles, from the Italian-inspired Stromboli line, to the Jobey Dansk pipes carved in the workshop of Karl Erik.
Speaking of the Stromboli line, here we have exactly that—and, even more than that, an example of an oversized Stromboli Extra grade. While I think the Stromboli line was made in France, a brief glance at the pipes is enough to understand the aesthetic Jobey was going for. With their jagged, stony, and typically dark finishes, as well as their colorful acrylic mouthpieces, the Stromboli was, in essence, an homage to post-war Italian pipes. More specifically, it captured the spirit of pipes such as the Castello Sea Rock, the Savinelli Estella, and the early Caminetto Business, albeit with a more classical approach to shaping. The strategy appears to have worked, especially in the long run. After all, just like the early Caminetto Business and the Savinelli Estella, despite being out of production for decades, the Jobey Stromboli remains a cult favorite among today’s pipe smokers.
The condition is very good. Minor rim darkening. Note that, like many of Jobey’s pipes, this one features a threaded tenon and mortise, rather than a push fitment.
