Description

Comoy’s is a historic brand in pipe making, and possibly the most historic brand in the making of briar pipes. Though originally founded in 1825 by a French family from Saint Claude, France, production of Comoy’s pipes was soon moved to London, England, where it established itself as one of the quintessential English pipe companies.

Owing to its mixing of traditional Anglo-French shapes with patches of very fine, partial rustication, it’s difficult to look at a Comoy’s Highgate and not be reminded of a very specific precedent: the Barling Freak, later known as the Quaint. Like the Freak/Quaint, the Highgate featured a kind of “chicken scratch” roughing of the briar, creating a unique look for each pipe finished in this manner, and one with plenty of character. As this one features the famous three-part C stem inlay, it will be a pre-1980s make, i.e., pre-Cadogan Investments merger, after which production of Comoy’s pipes was consolidated into the same London factories that Cadogan’s other brands were produced in.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
