Description

Comoy’s is a historic brand in pipe making, and possibly the most historic brand in the making of briar pipes. Though originally founded in 1825 by a French family from Saint Claude, France, production of Comoy’s pipes was soon moved to London, England, where it established itself as one of the quintessential English pipe companies.

From the looks of it, this is a post-Cadogan Investments merger Comoy’s, not only based on the nomenclature but, perhaps most strikingly, the shape. After all, it is a dead ringer for the iconic “9438” bullmoose Rhodesian rendition, which first belonged to GBD. Over the course of the 20th century, various mergers and acquisitions occurred pertaining to the parent companies of makes including Comoy’s and GBD, which came to a head in the 1980s, when production of these pipes was brought under the same roof. One consequence of this consolidation was something of a cross-breeding of the various lines and shapes that had once exclusively belonged to the makes involved, which I would imagine is how this Comoy’s ended up wearing its step-sibling’s clothes, so to speak. Either way, it’s a great design, so I won’t complain.

The condition is fair. Minor rim darkening, some residual stem oxidation, and some slight blemishes in the finish.
