Comoy’s 1979 Christmas Smooth Dublin Estate Briar Pipe, English Estates
Out of stock
Description
Comoy’s is a historic brand in pipe making, and possibly the most historic brand in the making of briar pipes. Though originally founded in 1825 by a French family from Saint Claude, France, production of Comoy’s pipes was soon moved to London, England, where it established itself as one of the quintessential English pipe companies.
While Christmas Pipes are, at least today, most commonly associated with the likes of Peterson and Savinelli, there was a time when they were all the rage in England, with makes such as BBB, Comoy’s, and Dunhill all participating in that tradition. As far as I’m aware, Dunhill is the only major factory make to still produce such pipes, so it was nice to have this one, from Comoy’s, land on my desk. The shaping is one of a fittingly flowing, horn-like Dublin, evoking brass bands and carroling and the like.
The condition is good. Some minor wear to the rim. I have a feeling that the mouthpiece is a replacement, as, to my knowledge, the 1979 Comoy’s Christmas Pipe was only ever fitted with vulcanite. If this one is a replacement, they did a fantastic job, even going so far as to drill a three-part “C” logo, just like the older Comoy’s pipes had.
