Cavicchi Brown Sandblasted Lovat Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates

Out of stock

Description

In 1974, after growing impatient waiting for a pipe he’d ordered, Claudio Cavicchi decided he would simply make his own pipe instead. The former farmer from Bologna, Italy, spent the next 15 years making pipes, until his work took off and received widespread acclaim. Cavicchi’s pipe-making exploits have only become more renowned in the decades since. Today, Cavicchi’s pipes hold a firm place at the top of an extraordinarily competitive Italian high-grades scene, being as carefully and meticulously crafted as they are beautiful. With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that Claudio himself is a world record holding slow smoking champion.

Next to the billiard, the Lovat is about as traditional as it gets as regards Anglo-French pipe design. But the Lovat is also a firm favorite of another, quite different pipe making scene, that of the post-war Italian artisans and workshops. Distinctly long, long shank shapes are, after all, staple in the portfolios of just about everyone associated with the “Pesaro school,” from Mastro de Paja, to Ser Jacopo and Don Carlos; just as they are with Castello and its offshoots in Caminetto and Radice. While not associated with either of these schools, Claudio Cavicchi makes many a fine long shank, as seen here. Dressed in Cavicchi’s signature light brown sandblast, the bowl is decked in an impressive, deep ring grain relief, with a cragginess and consistency rivaling the greats of England and America.

The condition is very good. Some wear to the rim and chamber slightly over-reamed. The pipe comes with its original sleeve.<P?
