Description
Caminetto was, and is to this day, a decisive figure in the history of Italy’s pipe workshop tradition. After spending time developing their skills in the Castello workshop, Guiseppe Ascorti and Luigi Radice left to found their own venture, which they named, “Caminetto.” Here, Ascorti and Radice were able to create their own now-classic shapes and finishes, such as the rusticated “Business,” and the carved, wax-drip “New Dear.”
The Caminetto Torch was, it seems, a rather rare line of pipes from the celebrated Cucciago workshop. It is not as well known as other Caminetto lines and finishes, such as the aforementioned New Dear and Business, nor would it appear to have been a standard production pipe. Instead, it was sold through the American tobacconist The Tinder Box, which had a special, longstanding relationship with Caminetto and its founders. The Torch was one of several lines in the Caminetto Prestige series, alongside the gold-mounted Damasco and the Tinder Box Anniversary Cavalier, and was, apparently, not cheap. This one’s a nicely stout, flame grain billiard, with a little of the old Dunhill LB to its figure, along with an ivory-like acrylic accent.
The condition is fair. Some rim darkening, chamber slightly over-reamed, and some finish fading.
