Butz Choquin Maitre Pipier Carved Partially Rusticated Dublin (Estate)

With its origins in an 1858 collaboration between Jean-Baptiste Choquin and Gustave Butz, Butz-Choquin ultimately become one of the premier smoking pipe companies in 20th century France. The brand is known both for its stylish variations on traditional English-French shapes and for its exploration of atypical and elaborate finishes. The brand is also known for its collaborations with celebrated French pipe makers, such as Paul Lanier and Alain Albuisson, who made some of Butz-Choquin’s highest-grade pipes for the company.

The aptly named Maitre Pipier series was comprised of pipes handmade by renowned French artisans, including the aforementioned Albuisson and Lanier, for Butz-Choquin. The Carved seems to be a subseries of these pipes, with a spot carved—i.e., partially rusticated—finishing that blended smooth polished bowls with a little roughing here and there. This Dublin rendition, for example, has a partially rusticated underside, giving it a little extra grip and a nice contrast of tones and textures.

The condition is very good. Minor darkening and some slight scratches on the bowl.
