Bruken Arborea Mediterranea 721 (G3) Smooth Canadian with Acrylic (New)

Bruken is Spain’s oldest extant pipe company, with a history that spans all the way back to 1914. Founded in Valencia by Emilio Navarro Folgado, the company would spend the next century operating a factory that manufactured both its own lines of Bruken and Ena pipes, as well as briar, stummels, and pipes for other makes requiring such services.

But the Bruken of today is a little different to how it was in the past, not least because of a tragedy that befell the company in 2024. This was a year of severe flooding in parts of Spain, including Valencia, where Bruken’s factory was located. The results were no less than catastrophic; many lives were lost, as were many homes and businesses. The Bruken factory was all but destroyed by the flooding, including its machinery and decades worth of briar stock.

Needless to say, the future of Bruken pipes was left uncertain by these events. But, as fortune would have it, the international pipe community would quickly come together to support Bruken in its darkest moments. By 2025, Bruken pipes were being made once more, albeit in a smaller scale, workshop setting. Today, these pipes are handcrafted under the direction of master artisans Sara Navarro and David Obres, who we had the pleasure of meeting personally at 2026’s Columbus Pipe Show.

This particular Bruken belongs to the Arbórea series, created in the 1980s by the workshop’s master craftsman at the time, Emilio Navarro Prósper. Dressed in a light brown finish and accented by twin bands of ivory-like acrylic, the pipe is further distinguished by its billowing bird’s-eye graining, for which it attained Bruken’s second-highest grade, the “G3.”
