Description

Bruce Weaver was, quite simply, one of America’s great artisans, something made even more impressive by his relatively short career. He first studied pipe making with Lee Von Erck, before continuing to develop his skills under Tim West and Todd Johnson, the latter of which he would end up collaborating with on certain pieces. Weaver would also go on to “pay it forward” through guidance given to other artisans, such as Scott Thile and Sam Adebayo. Weaver passed away in 2019.

There are few shapes quite as evocative of American artisan pipe making as the stout Lovat, or the brandy-Lovat hybrid. From Premal Chheda, to J. Alan, to Ryan Alden and beyond, it is a shape with a distinctive national allure. Another great drawn to the Lovat was Bruce Weaver, who produced a large variety of renditions, with varying degrees of muscle. This is probably the beefiest of the ones that I’ve seen, with a great, bird’s-eye oriented contrast sandblast and a golden Bakelite stem.

This pipe is also completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. There is a slight scratch on the rim, but it is purely cosmetic.
