Brebbia Calabash Partially Sandblasted Calabash Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates, 9mm
Out of stock
Description
Named for the company’s home township, Brebbia was founded in 1953 by Enea Buzzi, an alum of Savinelli’s manufacturing division. Still in operation 70 years later, Brebbia is one of Italy’s oldest extant pipe companies, with production still being undertaken using simple lathes and traditional methods of hand finishing. More recently, Brebbia has also collaborated with master artisan carvers from across to design some of its pipes, such as Denmark’s Rainer Barbi, Germany’s Otto Pollner and Holger Frickert, Italy’s Fausto Fincato, and Japan’s Tsuge.
For a relatively modern Italian workshop, calabash renditions are surprisingly prominent in Brebbia’s portfolio. From the large, rather extravagant Jubilee and First Calabash series, to the more staid shapes featured in the Linea and Silver series, to the very contemporary interpretations of the Reverse Calabash. Not unlike those of the Linea and Silver series, this one retains much of the shaping of the classical calabash, while being both a single-piece design as regards the bowl (i.e., no removable cap), and more manageable in size. Dressed in a crisp, ring grain partial sandblast and capped with a halo of bird’s-eye, it’s distinctive, but not over the top—a nice mix of the old and the new.
The condition is great. Minor inner rim darkening. The pipe comes with its original box and sleeve. It is also chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters if desired.
