Ardor Urano Fantasy Rusticated Acorn with Silver and Lucite (Estate)

Like many Italian workshop brands, Ardor pipes are a family affair. The name itself is an acronym of Angelo Rovera and Dorelio Rovera, father and son pipe makers who created the brand in 1972. The Rovera family’s history with pipes goes back much further, however, as Angelo’s own father, Francesco, had previously established the Sociedade Rovera pipe company with his brothers in 1911. All Ardor pipes are completely hand-made from briar that has been seasoned for at least 4-5 years, and the brand is noteworthy for its playful and innovative approaches to design. As a result, Ardor pipes are both quintessentially Italian, while also being somewhat different, having a style that is wholly their own.

One of the many talents of the Rovera family and their Ardor make is combining shapes and styles from various movements to create something very novel and contemporary. That’s not to say that they’re imitators—far from it—but the blending of disparate aesthetic philosophies is typically strikingly apparent in Ardor pipes. This one, for example, leans a little toward the Danes as far as shaping goes, taking the form of a plump acorn favored by the Scandinavian tradition, but dresses it in a far more Italian, stony rusticated finish. To this has been added Ardor’s signature Fantasy ornamentation, with the pipe’s shank capped by a mineral-like Lucite and its stem accented with sterling silver.

The condition is very good. Some minor wear to the inner rim. This pipe comes with its original box and sleeve.
