Dave Neeb

Dave Neeb is an American artisan pipe maker whose path to the craft began after a long career as an attorney. A lifelong pipe smoker, Neeb first became involved professionally as an estate-pipe seller and restorer. His experience handling and restoring high-grade pipes gave him a practical understanding of construction and engineering before he began making his own briars under the mentorship of Lee Von Erck and Rad Davis.

Neeb’s handmade tobacco pipes balance traditional shaping with contemporary artisan craftsmanship. His work shows a particular affection for apples, tomatoes, princes, Dublins, and other understated forms, although his catalog also includes large freehands, bamboo-shank designs, and muscular shapes influenced by Italian pipe making. Depending on the individual design, his pipes may feature smooth, sandblasted, rusticated, or partially carved finishes with hand-cut ebonite, Cumberland, or acrylic stems.

MBSD receives new Dave Neeb pipes directly for inclusion in our artisan selection and may also offer occasional estate examples acquired through trade-ins and collections. Each pipe is individually made, so available shapes, sizes, finishes, stem materials, and decorative accents continually change. Review each listing for complete dimensions, materials, condition, and design details.

Dave Neeb Tobacco Pipe FAQ

Dave Neeb is an American artisan pipe maker and longtime pipe smoker. After retiring from a career as an attorney, he worked as an estate-pipe seller and restorer before learning to make handmade briar pipes under the mentorship of Lee Von Erck and Rad Davis.

Dave Neeb pipes are known for dependable engineering, balanced proportions, and a style that joins traditional shapes with modern artisan craftsmanship. His portfolio shows a particular fondness for apples, tomatoes, princes, and Dublins, along with occasional magnum, bamboo-shank, and freehand designs.

Neeb primarily crafts his pipes from briar and may use hand-cut ebonite, Cumberland, or acrylic for the stem. Individual designs can also incorporate bamboo shanks, decorative accents, contrast stains, or smooth, sandblasted, rusticated, and partially carved finishes.

MBSD receives new Dave Neeb pipes directly for its artisan selection. The category may also include estate examples obtained from collectors or previous owners. At MBSD, classification is based on provenance: pipes received directly from the maker are new, while pipes acquired through the secondary market are estate pipes, even when unsmoked.

Because Dave Neeb’s tobacco pipes are individually handmade, available shapes and finishes change as new pieces arrive. Estate examples may also become available through customer trade-ins and collections. To sell or exchange a Dave Neeb pipe or another tobacco pipe, visit our pipe trade-in page:
