Description
The story of Becker & Musicò begins with the Becker family, perhaps the single greatest dynasty in Italian pipes. Fritz Becker and his son Paolo Becker took up pipe making together in the 1970s, and the high quality of their work caught the attention of Giorgio Musicò, manager of the Carmignani pipe shop in Rome. Carmignani sold Becker pipes for many years until, in 1990, the Becker and Musicò families came together to establish their own pipe shop, Becker & Musicò. It was in the workshop on the premises of Becker & Musicò that Paolo Becker and Giorgio’s son Massimo Musicò forged another pipe making partnership, crafting pipes under the Becker & Musicò brand. By 2002, Paolo had returned to making pipes under the Becker name and, by 2004, Becker & Musicò pipes were no more.
In contrast to the Becker family’s more modern and distinctly “Italian” proclivities, the Becker & Musicò venture was a return to tradition in terms of style. More often than not, these pipes were renditions of the classics of Anglo-French design, albeit made with the care and precision that only a high class artisan (or two, in this case) can muster. This army mount billiard is a perfect encapsulation of Becker & Musicò pipes, with its lightweight proportions, crisp, near-black sandblast, sterling silver army mount, and black ebonite stem.
The condition is good. Some darkening and scratches on the rim and slightly faded nomenclature.
