Description
Until relatively recently, Greece was not a nation typically associated with pipe making, especially artisan pipe making. Despite having a population twice the size of Denmark, there was, it seemed, no Greek equivalent to Copenhagen, Kolding, or Svendborg. Yet, as the last two decades have proved, there are indeed master pipe makers to be found in the islands and peninsulas between the Ionian and Mediterranean Seas. And if there was to be a “Greek Copenhagen,” one need look no further than Athens, the home city of Chris Asteriou, Konstantinos Anastasopoulos, and Kostas Gourvelos, and the birthplace of Michail Kyriazanos.
Kyriazanos took up pipe making in 2010, aged 21, and while so many artisans toil for years to craft something that an unacquainted stranger would pay money for, Kyriazanos’ first sale was the third pipe he’d yet made. Working under the Archaggelos moniker, Kyriazanos continued making pipes in between serving in the Greek armed forces. He was able to connect with Chris Asteriou and Kostas Gourvelos, with whom he was able to discuss ideas for further improving his work. Ultimately, Kyriazanos abandoned the Archaggelos moniker and began making pipes simply under his birth name. Michail Kyriazanos Pipes achieved significant international acclaim, even before Michail Kyriazanos the man had yet completed his military service. However, once he did finish, he was able settle on the small Greek island of Paros, where his pipes have been made ever since.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
