WO Larsen Sandblasted Stubby Egg Estate Briar Pipe, Danish Estates
Out of stock
Description
WO Larsen was a tobacconist in Copenhagen Denmark. In the 1960s, when Danish-style pipes were becoming highly sought after, thanks to revolutionary pipe-makers such as Sixten Ivarsson, a workshop was set up on the Larsen premises to produce enough high-grade Danish pipes to meet demand. This workshop was staffed by the emerging masters of Danish pipe-making, such as Sven and Teddy Knudsen, Hans ‘Former’ Nielsen, Jess Chonowitsch, Poul Ilsted, and Benni Jorgensen.
This is certainly one of the stubbiest, most pocket-friendly WO Larsen pipes I’ve had the pleasure of handling, though that hasn’t stopped it from holding onto the workshop’s signature, eminently Danish shaping. While it is quite compact (and, similarly, nicely lightweight), it is nonetheless characteristically bulbous, with a graceful 1/8th bend dipping and rising into a sizeable, deep-chambered egg rendition. The sandblasting is an interesting touch, too, with the result looking almost like if Dunhill had ever pursued a “Danish Tanshell.”
The condition is good. Some inner rim darkening and finish fading.
