Unknown XL Smooth Elliptical Freehand Estate Briar Pipe, Other Estates
Out of stock
Description
I’m not sure who made this pipe. It is possibly French, by virtue of the “Bruyere Extra” nomenclature on the bowl, or might even be American, with that simply being a nod to the briar being French (as was common in 20th century pipes). It’s an interesting one, however; not only is it exceedingly large, but its bowl, rather than being carved in a more “typical” freehand manner, takes the form of an elliptical cylinder, not entirely unlike the Danish Elephant’s Foot, Shield, or Lens shapes. It’s just one of those mysteries, I suppose.
The condition is good. Some inner rim darkening, minor finish fading, and slight handling marks.
