Stanwell (Pre-2010) Sterling 86 Sandblasted Lovat w/ Silver Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked

Out of stock

Stanwell is one of Denmark’s most celebrated and enduring pipe companies, having been founded by Poul Nielsen shortly after the second world war. Over the last six decades, Stanwell has established itself as both a leader in innovative Danish design and for producing well-priced pipes with precision construction and engineering. Many of its designs were created for the company by iconic pipe-makers in the Scandinavian scene, such as Sixten Ivarsson, Anne Julie, Jess Chonowitsch, and Tom Eltang.

Though Stanwell had dabbled with silver by way of a few army mounted shapes, the Sterling was, to my knowledge, Stanwell’s first line of pipes to exclusively feature sterling silver collars. The line debuted in the 1970s and has been a mainstay in Stanwell’s catalogs , making it one of Stanwell’s most successful to date. This one takes the form of a classic English Lovat, a shape that suits a precious metal trim perhaps more than any other, and wears a crisp, dark sandblast to further set off that shine. Going by the nomenclature, this will be a pre-2010 make, so it will have been manufactured in Stanwell’s famous Borup factory, in Denmark.

This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
