Smith House Partially Sandblasted Long Shank Rhodesian w/ Bamboo Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates

Taking their name from architect Richard Meier’s avant-garde homestead just off the Long Island Sound, Smith House Pipes are the creation of New York artisan Rich Rosselli. Like the Danish-American functionalists before him, Rosselli excels at creating modernized renditions of tried-and-true, traditional, Anglo-French staples. This he combines with novel uses of color and ornamentation, giving Smith House Pipes their acclaimed, signature aesthetic.

Given Rich Rosselli’s fondness for classic shapes, it’s no surprise that the Rhodesian features quite prominently in his Smith House output. Of course, being Smith House pipes, they are simultaneously traditional and rather different from the norm. This one retains the squat, compact dimensions of early French Rhodesian renditions, yet tweaks the proportions to give the pipe a distinctly long shank and Lovat-like figure. This one also includes a bamboo accent but, unlike typical applications, it has been used not to extend the shank but to accent it, with a ring cut right from the knuckle of the shoot.

The condition is excellent. Smoked a handful of times at most, and gently.
