Ser Jacopo is likely the most famous contemporary example of high-grade, workshop-made Italian pipes. It also belongs to a very special tradition in Italian pipe-making, having been established by Giancarlo Guidi and Bruno Sordini after the two had left another great Italian workshop, Mastro de Paja. Together, Guidi and Sordini created a brand of pipes that reflected their Renaissance sensibilities – even the figurehead of Ser Jacopo happens to be taken from a painting of a nobleman from centuries past – one that would soon become esteemed for creating unique and beautiful tobacco pipes that smoked just as well as they looked.

While many of Ser Jacopo’s pipes lean toward a refined, elegant, and perhaps even delicate aesthetic, this one is decidedly rounder and chubbier take on the traditional apple shape. Then again, if you’re familiar with the paintings and sculptures of the Renaissance, as Ser Jacopo have always been, then you’ll know that a certain voluptuousness and high art are anything but incompatible. The finish is Ser Jacopo’s distinct blend of pebble-dash and vermiculated rustication, one that could almost pass for a sandblast.

This Ser Jacopo is completely unsmoked. Having come to us via our trade-in program, it also includes its original box and sleeve.
