Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

There are few pipes in Savinelli’s catalog—old and new—that are as sought after as the Punto Oro in its Corallo di Mare finish, otherwise simply known as the Punto Oro Corallo. Italian for “sea coral,” these pipes might best be compared to Dunhill’s Tanshell line; both employ a virgin briar finish which, over time (and not unlike a meerschaum pipe), develops a bronze patina; both are rare and both often have pipe smokers jumping over each other to get one. Speaking of Dunhill, this particular Corallo is rendered in Savinelli’s shape 101, a decidedly stout billiard evocative of the early 20th century English classics, such as the LB, as well as the French Maigret.

The condition is very good. Some minor wear to the rim and a slightly over-reamed chamber, but nothing major.
