Savinelli Oscar Tiger 504 Rusticated Bulldog Estate Briar Pipe, Italian Estates, 6mm

Description

It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.

One of the earliest lines produced at Savinelli’s Milan factory was the Oscar. More specifically, it was the Oscar Aged Briar. They were modest, easy-going smokers, available in a smooth or a lightly rusticated finish with a dark top coat and a vulcanite mouthpiece. Some time later, the Oscar Lucite arrived, which traded in the Oscar Aged Briar’s vulcanite mouthpiece for a golden Lucite one. Later still came the Oscar Tiger, an example of which can be seen here. While it retained the “Oscar” naming convention, the design was slightly flashier than its predecessors, incorporating a brass trim and a mouthpiece cut from a more colorful, tiger-stripe Lucite. I don’t think the Oscar Tiger has been discontinued, though it does seem to be a little difficult to get one’s hands on them, these days. For those looking, here’s a chance for you.

The condition is very good. Some rim darkening. This pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 9mm filters, though it will perform perfectly well without one, too.
