Savinelli Estella 915 EX Rusticated Freehand Estate Briar Pipe, Unsmoked
Out of stock
Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
The Estella is a genuine cult classic within the Savinelli catalog, one that is only more so for being briefly produced many decades ago. It was, as seen on this example, a rusticated line whose finish is somewhere between the granular approach of Castello’s Sea Rock and Caminetto’s “wax drip” New Dear lines. But, for some reason, the Estella went through various, sporadic phases of discontinuation, revival (such as the Estella Nonpareil), and discontinuation once again. This is one of the iterations that adhered, albeit loosely, to Savinelli’s shape charts—in this instance, the (also discontinued) shape 915 EX, an extra large, very distinctive Dublin. As with most Estellas, this one features that same signature rustication, along with one of the series’ similarly recognizable colorful Lucite stems.
This Estella is also unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
