Description
It is probably fair to say that Savinelli is Italy’s most famous pipe brand. Founded in Milan in 1876 by Achille Savinelli, the brand has continuously offered high quality pipes for nearly 150 years. Though various Savinelli lines have come and gone over the years, the brand has always been notable for putting out classically styled pipes with a distinctly Italian twist.
Savinelli’s Erica Fiamma originally debuted in the 1960s, as part of a series of pipes with especially excellent grain patterns, though they haven’t been in production for a long time now. Whether Erica Fiamma was a sub-brand intended for pipes that didn’t quite make it into Savinelli’s Guibileo d’Oro or Punto Oro series (like the Savinelli Fiammata), or whether it was, like the Roma, simply a line unto itself, is still debated, though I can’t help but feel that this one stands above even some of the higher-grade pipes explicitly put out under the Savinelli name today. Taking the form of an elegant prince, the pipe features exceptional straight grain around the bowl, all of which is left entirely to its own devices by the light, natural finish it’s been given.
This pipe is completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating. The pipe is chambered to allow for the use of 6mm filters, such as Savinelli’s own balsa filters, but will perform just as well without a one if preferred.
