Rattray’s Monarch 15 Red Sandblasted Rhodesian with Chrome (9mm) (New)

The House of Rattray was originally a tobacconist, opening in Perth, Scotland, in 1903, under the oversight of Charles Rattray. House of Rattray soon became a blending house (whose blends are still sold to this day under the Rattray’s name) and a purveyor of Rattray-brand pipes, made for the tobacconist by established English pipe makers. Over the years, the name changed hands, with contemporary Rattray’s pipes and tobaccos being produced under the umbrella of German’s Kopp company (formerly Kolhase & Kopp). Pipes from this period of manufacture were sourced from major European makers, such as Chacom and Butz-Choquin in France and Brebbia and L’anatra in Italy.

The Monarch belongs to Rattray’s Classic series, which leans on the traditional forms of Anglo-French pipe design, including those employed by Charles Rattray over a century ago. But pipe design is not the only tradition the Monarch is intended to evoke; as the name suggests, these pipes have something of a regal theme to them, both in their connection to the royal families that have ruled Scotland since the 9th century, and in their rather grandiose aesthetic. These are typically sizeable pipes, and each is fitted with an engraved chrome faux-spigot mount. This one wears Rattrays’ red contrast sandblast finish, which has been paired with a jet-black acrylic mouthpiece.

This pipe is chambered to fit 9mm filters if desired.
