Peterson 2008 Sherlock Holmes Natural Watson Smooth Rhodesian Estate Briar Pipe, Irish Estates

Peterson pipes generally need no introduction, but just in case you’re unfamiliar: in 1876, a Latvian named Charles Peterson immigrated to Ireland and was hired making pipes in a workshop owned by Frederick and George Kapp. After rising through the ranks to become head craftsman, Peterson bought into the Kapp’s business, which was renamed, Kapp & Peterson (K&P). During this time, Peterson himself applied for several patents for pipe designs, including the world-famous Peterson’s System. Since then, Peterson has become one of the most recognizable names in pipe smoking and continues to produce high quality pipes from their headquarters in Dublin.

Aside from the [in]famous gourd calabash, if there is one pipe, or group of pipes, most associated with Sherlock Holmes in modern times, it is Peterson’s Sherlock Holmes series. First introduced as one, special shape in 1987, coinciding with the 100-year anniversary of A Study in Scarlet, Peterson’s Sherlock Holmes ultimately developed into a whole range of special shapes, each taking its name from a character or locale within Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s detective stories. The Watson was released as part of the first expansion of the Sherlock Holmes series at the end of the 1980s, designed by way of a collaboration between master pipe maker Paddy Larrigan and the notable Italian distributor Mario Lubinski. This one, made in 2008 during Peterson’s Dublin era, is an example of the make’s high-grade Natural finish, which pairs beautifully with the pipe’s signature sterling silverware.

The condition is great. Minor inner rim darkening and slight handling marks.
