Pat Vottis Large Eagle Carved Billiard Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates

As with another pipe from a while back, my research indicates that this one was made by Pasquale “Pat” Vottis, who owned a tobacconist in New York in the 20th century and who was a pioneering American artisan.
The design of this one would certainly speak to the American angle. While at first glance it might look like a stout, saddle billiard, the front face of the bowl is carved in the figure of an eagle. Given how close the 4th of July is (at least, as I write this), I can’t think of a better time for it to have landed on my desk.

The condition is very good. Slight handling marks.
