Papa Bear’s Pipes by Tim Beaumont Sandblasted Olivewood Brandy Handmade Pipe, New
Out of stock
Description
Papa Bear’s Pipes are made by North American artisan Tim Beaumont. Beaumont has been making pipes since 2018, cultivating a unique style that isn’t afraid to mix and match design elements and to create something completely out of the ordinary.
Speaking of out of the ordinary, this particular pipe from Tim Beaumont employs two less common materials in its construction, one old, the other quite new (though with a touch of the old-world to it). The main body of the pipe is olivewood, a dense, heat-resistant material that has been used in pipe making since before briar root became a standard; the stem, on the other hand, is hand-cut from a variety of custom-cast resin, designed specifically for the creation of artisan pipe mouthpieces. Olivewood is today most often seen in Italian pipes, such as those of Radice, Jacono, and Il Duca (though it is by no means completely absent from American makes), being especially well suited for natural sandblast finishes on account of its distinctive patterning. Resin, on the other hand, is a material created for the purposes of stems that are similarly comfortable to ebonite, while being similarly resistant to wear and oxidation to acrylic. Resin is also prized for its resemblance to early synthetics such as Bakelite, hence its slight, old-world aesthetic. All of this comes together nicely in Beaumont’s brandy, seen here, and which adds a new twist on the “Papa Bear style” his pipes have become known for.
