Neerup pipes were created by Peder Jeppesen, who began his career in the workshops of the legendary Danish pipe-makers Karl Erik Ottendahl and Erik Nording. Peder’s style has changed over the years, with his more recent work displaying a playfulness in design that is not often seen, even within the avant garde stylings of the Danish tradition.
For me, there are two things that define a Neerup pipe (or, at least, most of them): one is an organic composition, with typical shapes being apples, eggs, acorns, and strawberries; the other is the use of decorative elements, such as brighter color schemes, rings, and other adornments. This one fit my expectations perfectly. It’s a beautiful, plump strawberry, with a rustication that befits the shape so perfectly that I’d have to assume it was intentional, along with a slightly horn-like ferrule sandwiched between a black acrylic shank ring and stem. It’s a relatively compact pipe, and not too heavy either, so it may well be a comfortable enough hanger for smoking on-the-go.
This Neerup is also completely unsmoked, with an original bowl coating.
