Description
The Moonshine Pipe Company was created in the early 2010s by American artisan craftsman Johnathan Lavezzo. After becoming a major hit in the tobacco pipe community, Lavezzo’s production became greatly outpaced by demand, leading him to enlist the help of Todd Johnson and Pete Prevost in scaling up the venture. Johnson and Prevost’s Briarworks workshop took on the manufacture of Moonshine pipes, with the former ultimately acquiring the latter. Today, Moonshine and Briarworks pipes are produced under the same roof in Tennessee.
Given that Moonshine’s portfolio is comprised almost wholly of shorter, pocket-friendly pieces, the Devil Anse is a shape that suits the brand more than almost any other. But while Moonshine does offer a traditional Devil Anse, they also offer a slightly different rendition that also ties neatly into their American artisan heritage: the MS03 “Deviled Egg.” Combining the plump proportions of a Danish egg with the stubby and distinctly canted form of the Anse, the Deviled Egg has, quite understandably, become a highly popular, signature Moonshine shape since its debut. This one is dressed in the workshop’s house Dark Smooth contrast finish and paired with a reserved, black acrylic stem.
